Happy birthday little one

So it's a beautiful day outside and I for some unkown reason have been inside for most of the afternoon sewing and making a jolly old mess in my dining room. I made a little something special for my dear friends daughter Sadie. She turns one this week...wow...it felt like just yesterday I was visiting her and mum in the hospital when she was born.

Don't you just want to eat her up??
Anywho....must stop plotting how to kidnap Sadie and get back to business here.
So I had this dress for Zoe and the elastic had lost its spring. A little snip, snip and a few stitches later......

...and tada!!!
A wee little pillowcase dress. Huh? Pillowcase dress, yeah yeah I know, I didn't use a pillowcase but the patterns I had found online are for repurposing old pillowcases. I didn't have one that screamed Sadie so I used a dress instead.

You can find a great tutorial here @ one of my favourite sites Prudent Baby. They are super easy to make and I love the fact that you can turn something old into something pretty in such a short amount of time.
I did change the construction a little bit by replacing the ribbon with elastic for wee little ones and then simlpy tying a small band of fabric around the elastic to look like a bow.
Lets hope it fits!!!!

  2. I don't sleep much and I don't have a newborn like you my dear. I wish I had more time to do blogging all day, it really is a nice way to preserve memories and ideas that normally get lost in my mommy brain.
    How is your little family?

  3. Just came across this post... trying to convince myself I can do some sewing... I'm more of a cooker. Sewing usually scares me. I like this though - that you used a worn older dress to make the new one. So GREEN!!

  4. Michelle, this is a great beginner project and once you make one, trust me, you won't be able to stop.
